The first building of Balkan Gate Campus is Balkan Gate I. This brand new Tier III data center, constructed by Lancom, is the largest carrier neutral Data Center in Northern Greece, and one of the largest and most advanced Energy Efficient Data Centers in Southeast Europe. Balkan Gate I has an initial building spanning 2.500 square meters, with a planned expansion of up to 10,000 square meters.
The data center is built in accordance with Uptime Institute’s TIER III requirements, deploying cutting-edge infrastructure, energy, and cooling systems.
From the outset of its operations, Balkan Gate I offers the full spectrum of telecom and connectivity services, hosting and servicing ISP’s, IXP’s, Carriers etc. At the same time Cloud services and Data Center solutions, like Colocation, Disaster Recovery, Business Continuity are available in full deployment.

Power Supply
- At Balkan Gate I there are two high voltage substations with discrete transformers, while the total supply can exceed 4KVA / m2.
- Caterpillar C18DEKN Diesel generators, with Diesel supply for minimum 72Hrs continuous operation, support all the power requirements in case of a power outage from the power grid supplier (IPTO/TSO).
- The LV power supply is protected, through UPS APC Symmetra PX systems, in 2N + 1 layout, which ensures the smooth operation of the infrastructure and the air conditioning in case of a power outage.
- Dual AC supply for A + B equipment with APC ATS (Automatic Transfer Switch) system for single supply systems.
- Earthing system installation at frequency up to 30MHz for servers and telecommunication centers, HP filters for HF currents.
- Uninterruptible power supply is covered by SLA 99.999%.
Supervision and control of systems and functions
At Balkan Gate, a complete 24-hour monitoring and control system BMS (Building Management System) of each area of the building is in operation. The BMS provides detailed control of all systems of the installation (electricity, air conditioning, fire detection and firefighting). The surveillance system works, using sensors in all areas of the buildings so that any incident is detected immediately. In addition to Balkan Gate I, a 24-hour NOC (Network Operation Center) and SOC (Security Operations Center) is also hosted and operational inside the building.
Fire detection and fire safety
At Balkan Gate I, the fire detection system is based on local detectors (VESDA – Very Early Smoke Detection by Aspiration), which is located throughout the white space, plus smoke detectors for the rest of the building. In case of smoke, the fire detection and extinguishing system is activated with NOVEC gas supply. This gas acts effectively to suppress fire, while it is completely safe for the operation of the equipment. The design and structure and construction of Balkan Gate I, follows the international standards for dealing with fires lasting up to four hours.
Air Conditioning System
- Direct ventilation is provided in all areas. Co-location designed for operation in extreme conditions with independent supervision and control of temperature and humidity.
- In the areas of colocation, the temperature is maintained at 25 degrees C with a deviation of +/- 4 degrees C, while the relative humidity is adjusted to 50% with a deviation of +/- 15%.
- The above values of temperature and relative humidity are provided with SLA 99.99%.
Perimeter Security
Balkan Gate is fully equipped with modern security systems of perimeter and internal control. Security systems provide entry / exit control and intrusion detection with guaranteed protection on a 24-hour basis. Each entry and exit from the building area are monitored by the central security system using smart cards, biometric systems and smart cameras.
